About publisher
Scholastic was founded in 1920, by Maurice R. Robinson near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to be a publisher of youth magazines. The first publication was The Western Pennsylvania Scholastic. It covered high school sports and social activities; the four-page magazine debuted on October 22, 1920, and was distributed in 50 high schools.
Forward to today, Scholastic’s mission is built on helping children learn to read, and love to read. Award-winning children’s books and education resources for over 90 years.
“We believe that independent reading is a critical part of children’s learning and growth.
With support from teachers, parents and schools, children choose from Scholastic the books they want to read, and discover the pleasure and power of reading.
Finding the right book at the right time can light an emotional spark within children that motivates them to read more, understand more and read joyfully.
When that happens, the world opens and everything becomes possible.
Put books and learning at the heart of your family’s future. Hundreds of books and home-learning ideas that will inspire a lifelong love of reading in your child.”
