Vasundhara – she who holds treasure – is the chakra that exists before the body begins. Located beneath the soles of the feet, deep in the earth, it is the anchor point of the entire energy system. Where the Root Chakra grounds us in our own survival and belonging, the Earth Star grounds us in something older and vaster – in the living body of the planet, in ancestral memory, in the felt sense of being held by life itself.

- Position: Approximately 30–60cm below the soles of the feet, beneath the ground

- Colour: Deep brown, black, or magenta (traditions vary)
- Seed sound (bija mantra): LAM – the same as the Root Chakra, but at a slower, deeper, earthier octave; or simply the silence of the ground itself

▸ A Personal Reflection — The Earth Star Healed
As the author of this journal, the Earth Star Chakra is not a concept I came to through study. I came to it through my body - and through the long, slow work of learning to move spontaneously.
For much of my adult life, I carried what I now understand as a retained fear paralysis reflex - an infant survival response that never fully integrated. The effect was a kind of invisible rigidity: every decision, every movement, felt like dragging myself through partially set concrete. I was held still by something I couldn’t name, rooted not in the Earth but in fear.
At fifty, I began to see it as an observer. And then - in the way that Grace tends to arrive sideways - I found myself at ballroom dancing lessons. The pain in my legs as I tried to lift my feet and move freely around the room was real. The habitual, programmed body wanted to stay planted. But something in me wanted to spin.
I got there in the end. It cost me my marriage. But I was free to move.
Now I feel the Earth Star as a gentle hello - a quiet exchange of energy between my field and the planet’s. I have since learned that grounding works not by pushing energy down, but by allowing the Earth’s electrons to rise up into the body, neutralising excess positive charge and reducing inflammation. I understood, finally, why I had lived with M.E. through my twenties, thirties, and forties - and why, after a two-hour dance session full of joy and vitality, I came to know with certainty that I couldn’t possibly have it anymore.
The Earth Star healed is not stillness. It is the freedom to move - because everything, including us, is energy flowing and moving. The Earth does not ask us to be fixed to her. She asks us to dance at our own pace and move with inspiration.

- Nature immersion: Time in woodland, by water, or in the garden – letting the Earth’s field entrain with your own
- Visualisation: Imagining roots extending from the soles of your feet, through the floor, deep into the Earth – reaching the Earth Star as a dark, glowing sphere of light below you
- Crystal placement: Placing Black Tourmaline, Smoky Quartz, or Black Kyanite at the feet during meditation or rest
- Ancestral acknowledgement: Simple practices of honouring those who came before – the Earth Star holds the thread of lineage
► The Earth Star & the Schumann Resonance
The Earth Star Chakra is intimately connected to the Schumann Resonance – the electromagnetic frequency of the Earth’s own energy field, generated between the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere. When the Schumann Resonance spikes – often in response to solar activity – many sensitives feel it in the body as fatigue, disorientation, or a deep pull toward stillness and rest.
Working consciously with the Earth Star during periods of geomagnetic activity can help the body integrate these shifts more gracefully – grounding the incoming frequencies rather than being overwhelmed by them.

The Earth Star in the Full Chakra System
The Earth Star is the foundation upon which the entire chakra system rests. Without it, even the most developed upper chakras lack true embodiment – the higher we reach, the deeper our roots must go. It works in constant relationship with the Root Chakra above it, and with the Earth’s own energy field below. When the Earth Star is open and active, there is a quality of being genuinely at home on this planet – not just surviving, but belonging.
