A reference guide to the Third Eye Chakra (Ājñā) – the seat of inner vision, intuition, and the wisdom that sees beyond the surface of things.
Ājñā – meaning command or perceive – is the sixth chakra and the seat of our inner knowing. Located between the eyebrows at the brow centre, it governs our capacity to perceive – both the outer world with clarity and the inner world with trust. The Third Eye is not about seeing visions; it is about developing the quality of perception that recognises truth, pattern, and meaning in what is already present.

▸ A Personal Reflection — The Third Eye Chakra
A perfect third eye balanced day:- This morning I unlocked a whole world I didn’t know I had access to. YouTube playlists, phone videos, accounts I’d forgotten - none of it was new. It had always been there. I just couldn’t see it until now.
Third Eye, I think so! it doesn't have to be visions or mystical experiences. Just - suddenly being able to 'perceive' what was already present. The world doesn’t so much as change, our perception does.
After my morning walk, I mentioned going for that walk to my mother. I left it with her and didn’t push. A couple of hours later she came back and said yes. We picked two full pots of damsons, noticed the nature along the way, and spent time doing something together, which is not something we usually do.
Planting a seed and trusting the outcome will be okay whatever way it goes, without controlling it. Knowing when to act and when to wait equals Third Eye wisdom too - and it works just as well with damsons as it does with anything else.
I also didn't realise until writing this, the cosmic fun - damsons of course are deep indigo. Inner tuition led me straight to its own colour at 7am, out of bed and walking in the completely opposite direction to my usual routine.
Nothing is wasted. Nothing is irrelevant. Nothing happens by chance.
► Crystals & Stones for the Third Eye Chakra
The Third Eye responds to deep indigo, violet, and iridescent stones that carry the frequency of inner vision, clarity, and expanded perception.
- Amethyst – the quintessential Third Eye stone; calms the overactive mind and opens the channel of intuition
- Labradorite – the stone of magic and transformation; strengthens intuition and protects the aura during psychic work
- Lapis Lazuli – wisdom, truth, and inner vision; bridges the Throat and Third Eye; the stone of the seers
- Fluorite – mental clarity and organisation; clears confusion and supports focused, clear thinking
- Iolite – the vision stone; supports inner journeying and the development of intuitive sight
- Sodalite – logic and intuition in balance; supports the rational mind in trusting what it cannot fully explain
► Working with the Third Eye Chakra
- Meditation: Particularly practices that focus awareness at the brow centre – trataka (candle gazing), visualisation, or simply resting attention between the eyebrows
- Dream journaling: Recording dreams immediately on waking; the Third Eye speaks most freely in the dream state
- Reducing mental noise: Less screen time, more silence; the Third Eye opens in stillness
- Trust practice: Acting on small intuitive nudges and noticing the results – the Third Eye strengthens through use
- Crystal work: Placing Amethyst or Labradorite at the brow centre during meditation or rest
- Mantra: I see clearly. I trust what I know. I am guided.
► The Third Eye Chakra & the Five Elements
The Third Eye’s element is Light, and its qualities of vision, wisdom, and perception resonate with the Water Element in TCM – the element of the Kidneys, ancestral wisdom, and the deep knowing that comes from stillness. The Wood Element also touches the Third Eye through its association with the eyes and the capacity for clear vision and planning.
► The Third Eye Chakra & the Schumann Resonance
The Third Eye and the pineal gland are particularly sensitive to electromagnetic frequencies – including the Schumann Resonance. During spikes in the Earth’s field, many sensitives report heightened intuition, vivid dreams, or a sense of expanded perception. The pineal gland is also sensitive to light and geomagnetic activity, making the Third Eye one of the most responsive chakras to solar and planetary events.

The Third Eye in the Full System
The Third Eye is the penultimate chakra of the seven main centres – the place where individual perception begins to open into universal awareness. Below it, the Throat gives voice to what the Heart knows. Above it, the Crown opens into the infinite. The Third Eye is the witness – the part of us that can observe our own experience with clarity and compassion, and begin to see the larger pattern of which we are a part.
