Many of us don’t realise most hand towels are made out of microfibres, which are a kind of plastic. Every time you wash this synthetic fabric, millions of microfibres are released into the waters – these fibres are too small to be filtered out by waste treatment plants, so they end up in our waterways and oceans, where they wreak havoc on marine animal health and our environment.

These plastics make their way into the bellies of marine animals, and people have found plastics within the fish on their plates!

Once you are done with your hand towel, cut it into strips and place it into your compost bin – it will then fully biodegrade back into our earth.

Are cotton hand towels more eco friendly?
Cotton hand towels are more eco friendly than microfibre towels as they are biodegradable and naturally antimicrobial. They are just like a usual kitchen towel but without any micro-plastics.

How should I wash cotton hand towels?
Throw your hand towel in the washing machine on a hot wash. You can put your towels into the tumble dryer but avoid fabric softener as it will reduce their absorbency. If your hand towel has a smell, soak them in warm water with vinegar before you wash them.
